Cici Washburn reports on the incredible solidarity between striking rail workers and striking hospital cleaners in London on Saturday

Striking GMB cleaners, porters and domestic workers at St George’s Hospital in Tooting who are employed by Mitie marched on Saturday with RMT and Aslef rail workers.

The mood was electric. The fast-moving, extremely energetic march went from St Georges Hospital to Tooting tube where a rally was held and there were speeches. The strikers then marched on to the tube and carried on the protest in two carriages as we sped on our way to Kings Cross to join the RMT strike rally.

The protesters marched up the escalators at Kings Cross while chanting ‘Mitie Mitie Mitie, out out out!’ And cheering. Many members of the public joined us as we then took the road and marched into the strike rally.

Before you go

Counterfire is growing faster than ever before

We need to raise £20,000 as we are having to expand operations. We are moving to a bigger, better central office, upping our print run and distribution, buying a new printer, new computers and employing more staff.

Please give generously.
