The occupation was in protest to the proposed cuts at the University of Glasgow, amounting to £20m by 2014. The HRC recently closed due to a lack of funding and the university plan to turn it in to offices and teaching space while many believe it should be re-opened as a research club which offered social and academic facilities to postgraduate students.
