Bristol- Gaza, the movement and the election: A view from the left.

As we approach the general election, there is consensus between Sunak and Starmer on all the major political issues. They each back Israel’s assault on Gaza and the US imperial alliance. They each urge more spending on war and militarism and authoritarian crack downs on the right to protest.

Yet they are also forced to contend with the size and sustained nature of the protest movement for Gaza. Extra-parliamentary politics are set to have a big impact on this election and this can exacerbate the crisis of representation that many people feel.

As it looks increasingly likely that the Tories face electoral meltdown, more space is created for the emerging for left independent challenges to Labour.
