As the massive protests in France continued last week, Italian workers also took to the streets on Saturday to demonstrate against their finance minister’s planned austerity measures.
Organised by the national metal workers’ union FIOM, estimates for the numbers on the Rome protest range from 100,000 up to a million
The protesters are not the only ones fearing that the €25bn austerity package will lead to jobs losses and a slowdown of GDP growth: Last week the Bank of Italy expressed the same concern.
