Sparks flew this morning as electricians and site workers continued their ongoing protests against a cartel of bullying construction companies.

The protest began at the site of the King’s Cross redevelopment, before moving to the delivery entrance on Goodsway where the sparks blocked the road. Chanting “Low Pay? No Way!”, the demonstration made its way past the Guardian offices on York Way and picked up the pace to a jog. The police couldn’t keep up, and the electricians streamed into the courtyard of the Gratte Brothers office on Caledonian Road. The demonstrators then occupied the building, chaining themselves to doors until police cut them loose. Gratte Brothers is one of the cartel of companies attempting to cut electricians’ wages by up to 35%. Meanwhile the electrical workers vowed to continue with acts of civil disobedience until their voice is heard.
